Can you shorten a dress with lace or a beaded edge along the hem?
Yes, though it is done differently to a plain hem. Rather than cutting the decorated edge off, the lace or beading is lifted, the length is taken out above it, and the original edge is re-laid at the new hem. Slower work, but it keeps the detail the dress was bought for.
